Courtyard of Colours (Gurgaon)
A spirited celebration of Indian heritage and expressive design, Courtyard of Colours is a 1500 sq.ft residence in Gurgaon designed for a mid-age couple who wished for a home that is vibrant, rooted, and rich in character. The design aims to create spaciousness and emotional warmth, where every space narrates a story rooted in culture.
The entrance establishes the mood — a sunroof washes the arrival passage in daylight while a Korean blue stone walkway, layered with toughened glass, recreates the illusion of walking over a water well. This dramatic gesture pays homage to India’s architectural memories where water symbolizes life and abundance.
The home opens into a courtyard-inspired living area marked by reclaimed 200-year-old pillars from Tamil Nadu — infusing heritage into a contemporary shell. A soft faux skylight introduces the nostalgic glow of an old chajja, while a cozy reading corner with custom shelving completes this soulful setting.
Throughout the home, materiality celebrates Indian craftsmanship — broken stone walls in the bathrooms bring vernacular texture, and handmade tiles with stone inlays colour the passages with artisanal flair. In the dining space, a bespoke table featuring Mother of Pearl inlay becomes a refined statement of artistry, reflecting the home’s cultural depth and attention to detail. The home is layered with soulful details a 10-year-old The Golden Fleece carpet carrying stories in its weave, and Sarita Handa cushions offering gentle softness reminding us that comfort and culture can coexist beautifully.
Courtyard of Colours stands as a modern Indian home that honours tradition, embraces creativity, and celebrates the beauty of storytelling through space.
